The best way to save time and keep on schedule when blogging a book is to commit to daily blog posts.
Once you have planned the contents of your book, as I wrote in Daily Blog Posting and Personal Branding Success, you’ll find it easy to create an efficient system for preparing your daily blog posts.
With a system for daily blogging in place, you’re likely to be pleasantly surprised how quickly you build a following for your ideas and generate content for your book. Progress comes quickly because, each day, you’re simultaneously writing and marketing your book.
What most bloggers forget (or never learned)
The reason that daily blogging is such an efficient way to blog a book is that the hardest part of writing anything is planning your content and committing to daily action.
- Pre-planning your writing. Once you know what you’re going to write about, coming up with the right words is relatively easy–especially if you know there will be time later to edit your work before you publish your blog post or book. Knowing what you’re going to write ahead of time gives your brain time to make connections and organize your ideas.
- Creating the habit of daily writing. Writing is not sorcery; the more you write, the better you’ll write, and the easier you’ll write. Committing time for daily blog posts keeps your brain engaged with your project. It new blog posts moves your book forward, builds your confidence, and keeps you motivated.
- Short deadlines are more effective than long deadlines. Short, immediate, deadlines are far more powerful than long-range deadlines. Especially when they don’t require as much work. Daily blog posts replaces easily-procrastinated 30 and 60-day deadlines–requiring tons of work to complete–with shorter, more frequent, immediate deadlines that require far less work.
- Shorter working sessions are also more efficient than longer sessions. You’ll get far more done in 5 short, i.e., 45-minute or 1-hour, daily writing sessions than you would in an 8 hour marathon on the weekend. Plus, you’ll have more time for yourself and your family.
- The power of a self-imposed challenge. Finally, publicly committing yourself to Plus, having made the commitment to writing daily blog posts to yourself and others, is also a strong motivator; you’re far less likely to let everyone down!
It’s far easier to write 400 to 500 words a day, than it is to think about writing 5,000 or 10,000 words that aren’t due for two months!
