Personal branding success is cumulative and incremental, based on everyday action.
Here are 7 ideas and tips for building your brand today, in the next 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or hour:
- Post. Create a simple, helpful blog post that will help your followers solve a problem or achieve a goal. Your post can be as simple as a often-overlooked marketing or software shortcut, or article or book review that provides a helpful perspective. - Tweet. Perhaps, after posting an “anthology” or list-based blog post, you can write and schedule 7 individual Tweets about each of the links in your original blog post.
- Share. What have you discovered lately? Have you read any books that others in your field might not know about? What are some of the lessons you’ve learned from recent attending recent teleseminars or webinars? If you’ve recently visited a bookstore, or searched online for information, have you located any book titles with lessons to teach, like my $1.00 book title Dollar Store discovery that sparked yesterday’s blog post?
- Identify. Identify previously-written resources, like articles, presentations, blog posts, or reports, that you can reformat as ebooks, autoresponder-delivered ecourses, or podcasts or videos. Often, information and resources on your hard drive that you take for granted is precisely the content that newcomers to your field are anxious to learn and experienced professionals in your field may have forgotten.
- Explore. Make a list of the biggest current challenges you and your market must deal with, and explore some of the ways you could come up with new ways to address the challenges. Perhaps, start by creating a series of questions that others in your field can ask themselves to identify the extent that current trends are affecting their business or their families. Often, asking questions is the the best approach to coming up with fresh, breakthrough answers, as described in a previous blog post.
- Schedule. Schedule an impromptu teleseminar or webinar next week, and commit to it by announcing it. You’re likely to be surprised by how much you can get done after you’ve announced an event! There’s nothing like a deadline to prompt you to action! Hint: choose a topic that you know something about, but have always wanted to explore in greater detail.
- Follow-up. If you only have a few minutes, considering contacting a previous clients or attendees of recent events and thank them for their previous support and for an update on their progress since you worked with them or your event. Contact them via e-mail or, even better, pick up the phone to establish a personal connection. Avoid probing or trying to sell something; just let them know you appreciated the previous opportunity and that they were on your mind.
Personal branding success is cumulative
Although there’s a common tendency to view personal branding success from the perspective of “home runs” and blog posts that received hundreds of comments and Tweets, personal branding success is cumulative. Each blog post, each Tweet, and each RT makes its own contribution to your online visibility and search engine success. By taking consistent action every day, you’re building your brand, maintaining your visibility, and becoming more comfortable with writing and the mechanics of building your personal brand. Comments?
