Friday’s upcoming events for authors
Plan to attend my free Author Guide to Preparing for Media Interviews teleseminar call next Tuesday when I’ll describe a 3-step process for authors who want to make the most of the interview and sell more copies of their books.
Those attending can download a note-taking sheet and my new Talking Points for Media Interviews worksheet that helps you identify the questions you’d like to be asked and prepare your responses.
During the call, attendees can ask questions and share their experiences with other callers. The call will join more than 100 other audios for Published & Profitable’s members.
It’s never too early to begin planning for media interviews about your new book! The earlier you start to prepare, the more comfortable you’ll appear as an expert in your field.
Call details
Publishing experts say there’s no faster and easier way for an author to get their book noticed than by getting interviewed by a well-known authority. But if they’re not properly prepared, listeners will know it, and they won’t come across as professional or knowledgeable as they should.
You’ll learn how authors prepare for their interviews effectively, so they come away from them with listeners and viewers wanting more. Topics topics that will be discussed during this call:
- How authors can take control of their own interview
- Why it’s so important to have a defined agenda
- How authors can get asked the questions they want people to hear
- Communicating the author’s message and ideas – not the interviewer’s
- How authors can avoid being blind-sided in an interview

Working as a news producer (the dark side) here are some hints about interviewing:
1. Look at the interviewer, not the camera
2. Try to avoid numbering reasons or answers, such as First I, second. This allows editing of the interview to fit in a time slot.
3. Avoid the phrase “No comment” use I don’t have that answer or will find out.
FACE
F. How do you feel? Made, sad, glad
A. Analysis numbers, not 400 billion but 20 per cent or a new Hummer for every man & woman in the US.,
C. Crime, catastrophe, conflict or change, what are you about?
E. Energy, invest energy into the interview, a live interview has more energy than the playback of a recorded interview. Not hyper, remember there are only 1 or 2 people in TV audience. Don’t be scared.
