Steve Atlas wants Americans to know that it is possible to avoid high gasoline prices and the increasing traffic congestion associated with many of theĀ nation’s most popular beach vacation destinations this summer.
Long before the unsustainability of our dependence on automobiles and foreign oil became obvious to others, Steve has exploring and writing about the small steps that everyday citizens can take to save money and reduce their carbon footprint. He’s written numerous articles, newsletters, and reports on topics like college towns and retirement areas where cars are not necessary.
Steve’s latest research project is an e-book describing 20 U.S. beaches where driving is optional. Many of the beaches are accessible by air, rail, or public transportation. More important, even if you do drive to them, you can park your car at the motel and not need it until you leave for home.
At each of the 20 United States beaches that Steve profiles in his Car Free at the Beach report, there are convenient and free, or low-cost, ways you can get from the motel to the beach, or to other area attractions, like restaurants, without driving. His Car Free at the Beach website is becoming a hub of resources for those who share his views that the best way for America to wean itself from our dependence on foreign energy and the automobile is for citizens to take small steps that reduce their family’s use of the automobile.
E-books and Internet marketing for social change
