10 questions to ask yourself before committing to a book title

Posted May 27th @ 3:47 pm by Roger C. ParkerPrint

Before committing to a nonfiction book title, ask yourself the following 10 questions:

  1. Does your title promise your readers an obvious, highly-desired benefit?
  2. Does your target clearly identify your readers?
  3. Have you used numbers to add specificity to the benefit the title promises?
  4. Does your title differentiate your book from others on the market?
  5. Does your title engage your reader’s curiosity?
  6. Is your title based on a clearly-understood metaphor?
  7. Is your title as short as possible–amplified by a longer subhead?
  8. Have you used alliteration, or repeated sounds, to make your title memorable?
  9. Did you use gerunds, or “action verbs,” to emphasize progress?
  10. Is your title based on familiar terms and everyday words?

Shelley Lieber and I will be discussing these, and other, topics on our free call tonight.
