Thursday’s author profit tip
Here’s an idea for authors and subject area experts who want to convert more prospects and readers into profitable new clients using 1-on-1 telephone coaching sessions. Half-hour and 1-hour telephone coaching is a proven method of building lasting client relationships. Authors often make more money during a single telephone coaching session than from the sale of hundreds of books!
Here’s a simple process I discovered last night while interviewing Philip Davis from Tunsten Marketing–a brand naming consultancy.
- Create a page describing your coaching services. See example. Emphasize your intention of helping others while giving them a relatively low-cost way to “test drive” you. (Philip’s words during our interview.) Define the terms of the calls, and add testimonials.
- Add a form. Provide an opportunity for prospects to identify themselves, explain the challenge they are facing, and their goals for the call. The form allows you to capture your prospect’s information and credit card information, if both parties want to move forward.
- Offer a choice of terms. Add a drop-down menu, allowing prospects to choose either a 1/2 hour consultation or a 1 hour consultation. By clearly identifying costs up front, and offering 2 alternatives, you are emphasizing that your pricing is non-negotiable, yet you respect the prospect’s time and budget resources.
As a published author, your book provides the credibility needed to convince prospects that you can help them solve their problems and achieve their goals. All that remains is a process for encouraging readers to take action.
Would this idea work for you?
Explain why, or why not, as a comment, below.

Yeah, actually it would. I do some writing coaching already and I can see how creating a page at http://www.aboutfreelancewriting.com and a couple or three packages might very well work. Thanks
