Monday’s planning tip to help you write a book
Mindjet’s MindManager offers numerous keyboard shortcuts that can save time authors researching competing books online. Used together, these keyboard shortcuts can speed your work by eliminating several steps usually accomplished by opening menus with the mouse.
When you’re at a blog or website and you want to link to it from a MindManager map, like Published & Profitable’s new Competition Planner MindManager template, simply:
- Select the web address in your web browser, and copy it using the CTRL + C keyboard shortcut.
- Select the topic or subtopic that you want to link to the URL, and enter the CTRL + K keyboard shortcut to open the Add Link dialog box
- Then, use the CTRL + V keyboard shortcut to paste the URL into the hyperlink box using the CTRL+C.
- To close the Add Link dialog box, press the Enter (or Return) key.
Using these 4 keyboard shortcuts together will soon become second nature to you as you research the competition on hand. You’ll be more productive because you’ll be keeping your hands on the keyboard, rather than using the mouse to open menus and select commands.

Roger,
I usually go for keyboard shortcuts, but when it comes to the browser I opt of the mouse. Since I often work with two monitors, I find it easier to drag the URL from the browser directly into a topic. You can also drag it and create a new subtopic on your map. This is one of the few instances where I prefer the mouse over keyboard shortcuts! Keep the good tips coming.
