The power of a blog to create a community of like-minded individuals is illustrated by the a recent post in Chuck Frey’s Mind Mapping Software Blog. A while back, Chuck asked his blog’s readers for their opinions on a great question, “How do you define a great software-produced mind map?”
Over 45 readers responded to Chuck’s request for comments. The comments are interesting and varied. In many cases, following the comments back to each individual’s own blogs and websites yielded further mind mapping ideas and insights.
One of Chuck’s readers, Jim Deiner, in fact actually created a mind map of the responses to Chuck’s question, which you can download as a PDF file or as a MindManager MMAP file.
Chuck, recently, posted his own summary and interpretation of the responses.
All in all, Chuck’s question and its follow-up is an excellent case study, an educational and fun project, one that serves as a prototype exercise for authors looking to create a community of involved readers and prospects.
Takeaway and resources. What’s a question you can ask your blog readers that will stimulate comments, discussion, and new perspectives? If you’re not yet using mind maps to map your books and book marketing, you may want to visit Published & Profitable’s Mind Mapping Resource Center.
