Michael Port and Elizabeth Marshall show how to get your book published by choosing the right title

Monday’s planning tip for authors

Few words are as important as the title you choose for your book. Titles sell books! Choosing the right title is a key to getting your book published. And, few know as much about choosing book titles as Michael Port and Elizabeth Marshall. Michael’s ability to choose titles with a compelling promise was demonstrated by his best-selling Book Yourself Solid. Now, Michael Port and Elizabeth Marshall are about to launch a new book with–again–another compelling title: The Contrarian Effect: Why It Pays (Big) to Take Typical Sales Advice and Do the Exact Opposite.

Like all successful book titles, The Contrarian Effect succeeds on several levels. First, the title is relatively short, permitting the key word, Contrarian, to become the primary graphic on the front cover. In addition, the title provokes curiosity which compels reading the longer, subtitle that follows.

Finally, as Michael Port’s fans know, his motto is “Think Big” and his brand is the “Think Big Revolution.” There’s genius to the way he and Elizabeth added “big” to the subtitle. By doing so, Michael and Elizabeth have created a segue between the book and his brand, demonstrating how those who have benefited from his previous books can benefit from this book.

The Contrarian Effect’s publication date is September 9th. However, you can get an advance look at the book by watching (and listening to) Elizabeth Marshall’s great YouTube video (which, itself, is a great example of social marketing at work). You can also learn more by visiting Michael Port’s website and signing-up for his Think big Revolution newsletter (and taking advantage of the invitations he will be offering).
