Tuesday’s writing tip for authors
Mindjet’s MindManager is a mind mapping software program widely used by authors to plan and write their books. MindManager not only helps you plan your book’s table of contents, it can also help you track your progress while writing your book. Tracking your daily progress helps maintain your motivation.
One of the best ways to track your progress while writing your book with MindManager is to add a colored background, or fill, to each topic as you complete it. I recommend adding a light gray fill. Gray is light enough to allow you to still see the name of the topic you have finished, but noticeable enough to give you a feeling of progress each time you add a fill to another topic.
By adding gray fill to completed topics, you’ll be able to note your progress notice. As you map turns gray, you’ll feel prouder and prouder of what you’ve done, which will motivate you to continue.
MindManager offers several alternative ways of indicating topic completion. But, for me, the best solution is to add gray background fills. The grayer the map, the closer I am to my goal of completing my book on schedule!
