Invest a few minutes recreating a list of the ways you can build your business by helping your readers achieve the change they desire

Thursday’s profit tip for authors

No matter how busy you are planning, writing, or promoting your book, put aside a little time each week to create a fresh list of the ways you can help your readers achieve change by solving their problems or achieving their goals. Readers of your book are your most pre-qualified prospects; they’re the group most likely to be willing to spend more for products (like efficiency tips and software templates) and personal services (like coaching and consultation).

Creating fresh lists helps keep your mind actively engaged in coming up with new ways for you to serve your readers. New ideas, and new book opportunities, are likely to appear each time you recreate your list.

Why a new list?
Rather than simply refer to, and add new ideas, to an existing list, create a fresh list at frequent intervals. Each time you recreate your list, save it with a different filename.

The reason to start your list from scratch is that each time you return to your list, you’ll be more likely to view new possibilities. The initial ideas you jot down will probably be the most obvious ones, but, the momentum you build will likely trigger additional ideas and possibilities that hadn’t previously occurred to you.

Print your latest list on 3-hold paper, and save it in your 3-ring “writing” binder. When you compare it to previously-printed lists, you may be surprised to see how new possibilities occur each time you recreate your list.
