Monday’s planning tip

Aaron Shepard, author of several best-selling books, including Aiming at Amazon.com: The NEW Business of Self-Publishing, has updated his Sales Rank Express. Although primarily intended to help authors track sales of their books at Amazon.com sites around the world, authors can also use Sales Rank Express to evaluate the sales potential of future titles by keeping a close watch on the sales of existing books on the topic or in their field, saving time preparing book proposals.

As seen in the New York Times, and favorably mentioned in Seth Godin’s blog, authors can save time checking multiple aspects of multiple titles, monitoring:

  • Sales over time of specific titles
  • Reader comments and ratings
  • “Paired” books, i.e., books that Amazon.com recommends to prospect buyers

Sales Rank Express eliminates the need to search for multiple titles on Amazon.com’s sites in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Aaron Shepard also offers a Sales Rank Express widget that makes it easy for authors to add blog and website banner-links to their books on Amazon.com.
